A Lesson Taught By The Shades Of Autumn

by Tejal Jain aged 13

Sitting by the window
A storm going on in my head
My tear-streaked face
Eyes swollen and swelled up
Lips numb –
Unable to speak a word

Staring out the window, and I see
A beautiful picture
Painted by the colours of nature
Sky coloured in soothing shades
Of golden & red & orange
The trees gradually lose
Their yellow & orange & red leaves

While I, on the other hand
Now realize,
That everything may not be all bad
Though yet it seems impossible
She’s leaving – Yes! My best friend
Moving to the other corner of the world
Where it’s going to be day when night’s fallen here

But… I suppose, I’ve to let it go
She’s happy
And trying so hard to fight it out
So, I’ve got to be happy too
We’ll always be in touch
Though it won’t really be the same
As our good old days – together always!

But just as the trees shed their leaves
With the knowledge that they’ll come back,
When the time is ripe
In my heart, I know
It’s true…
She’ll come back when the time is right
She’ll come back soon
