In the Quiet Aftermath

by Ruby aged 14

In the Quiet Aftermath
In the soft whisper of night’s embrace,
Where shadows linger and silence has a face,
Your laughter dances on the edges of dreams,
A fragile echo, unravelling at the seams.
The empty chair, a monument to grace,
Holds the warmth of memories, time cannot erase.
Each heartbeat a reminder of words left unsaid,
In the garden of longing where the petals are shed.
I trace your name in the cool autumn air,
A ghost in the sunlight, woven with care.
Though time may weave its relentless thread,
In every tear, a story, in every sigh, you’re not dead.
You are the whisper of wind through the trees,
The flicker of starlight, the soft hush of the seas.
In laughter, in sorrow, in moments that gleam,
You reside in my heart, in the fabric of dream.
So I carry you gently, you’re never far away,
In the rhythm of life, in the dawn’s silver ray.
For love like ours, though the body may part,
Lives on in the echoes, forever in my heart.
