If Only You Could

by Rihard Rimicans aged 9

If only you could see
A swarm of hollow men
Crawling, climbing, clambering
Onto the ghostly train
Back to the devil

If only you could touch
The sticky mud
In a disgusting swamp
Crawling, choking, drowning
Drowning

If only you could hear
Froth-corrupted gargles
Of courageous soldiers
Sobbing, suffocating, writhing
Like screaming in a mineshaft

If only you could see
Tear stained poppies
Weeping, sobbing, singing
In the wind-the wind
Echoes the voices of heroic soldiers

If only you could remember
The fearless soldiers
Crawling, sprinting, clambering
Dying for their beloved country
Trying the best they can.
