I Should Like To

by Eve Blightman Bell aged 11

I should like to feel the song of a songbird,
hear the coming of summer and winter.
I should like to ride on the clouds and forget all my sadness,
to touch happiness when it is near.
I should like to fly on a firework and let my true colours shine.
I should like to live in a world where only happiness lives,
where everyone has someone to hold them when they need it.
End all times we hurt our planet.
I should like to paint the future,
steal the strength of the wind.
I should like to hold the world in my hands,
keep the night in a jar.
