One cold night
I walked into the darkness
I heard the deafening gunshots
Of Germans, Italians and Austro Hungarians
In their stinky, sticky muddy trenches
All trying to win WW1
But the English, French and Russian soldiers
Wouldn’t give up
The General gives another order
We had to cross no man’s land
So we did
Seeing my friends dying
Until one of the gunshots
Got me
But I survived
I was petrified
Speechless with fear
From what I had witnessed
The words wouldn’t come
At the end of the War
I felt empty
I didn’t feel any emotion at all
Perhaps I had too much emotion
I just couldn’t speak at all.

Good poem. Well done.
