Homeless

by Hamzah Rather aged 8

The one who leaves me behind.
I’m left on the streets.
You just walk by.
I just can’t interpret your mind.
And all the loves lost.

The heart beats.
The sound fades.
I lose hope as it goes away.

The fate is there,
On the ground.
I just don’t have the energy to get around.

Take a step,
Fall down.
Get up again and you push me to the ground.

The heart beats.
The sound fades.
I lose hope as it goes away.

Look up, I’m stared at.
Bending down you give me a piece.
Then walk away in peace.

I Look at it as if it were a diamond.
The precious piece is stolen.
I glared at him, with all the glory taken away.

The heart beats.
The sound fades.
I lose hope as it goes away.

As a storm breaks out,
There’s nobody on the streets.
My clothes are wet, I’m in half-sleeves,
All I can do is call out for the one who is complete.

I miraculously made it through the night.
Open my eyes to see the light.
Unlike last night the streets were full of fright.

The heart beats.
The sound fades.
I lose hope as it goes away.

Everything is calm.
Just as you stroll along.
You take a step back and exclaim “You stink!

My tummy’s grumbling for I haven’t eaten.
It grumbles again and I start to feel the pain.
People peeping at me with silence that is plain.

The heart beats.
The sound fades.
I lose hope as it goes away.
And it goes away for eternity.
