Heart of the Sea

by Harshita Das aged 11

The ocean is blue
The ocean is vast
Spreads out for miles around
With rubies on the surface
And gold underneath
As blue as the sky above
As calm as the river impatient
Covering most of the Earth
Like a warm, cuddly blanket
Miles deep, below the ground
Filled with living things, lively and playful
The Sun above
As glittering rays fall on the surface

She is beautiful and powerful
She is swift and calm
And yet, she has her other side
She is unpredictable
And in a rage, she can create the worst of storms
And tsunamis
And other things we have learnt to fear
There could be consequences
If she were a human

Her eyes calm and steady
They switch from shades of green
Fierce looking
No one dares to cross her
Her hair as golden
As the Sun’s rays she absorbs
Wavy, they fall about her shoulder
Her skin as pale as the moon
A sleeveless gown
Of hues of blue
Sweeping the floor
Walks mightily
Like a proud queen
Dark blue sandals
Like the deeper part of the ocean
Her jewellery made of pearls
Found in the depths
Her ring
Has tiny jellyfishes
Engraved on them
She holds a cupped hand of water gingerly
For that is
The heart of the Ocean
