I Am a Ghost

by Jade Smith aged 13

I am a ghost;
I am a ghost of a girl that I was before,
Once bent now broken.
I am a ghost of a smile that haunts existence,
Once hopeful now lost.
I am a ghost of a once genuine laugh,
I’m at the end of my path.
I am a ghost of society’s production,
Life comes with no instructions.
All my true happiness is dead;
I am dead .
I’ve always been dead.
Just a ghost,
Within my head.

    What a very evocative poem. I love the effective use of repetative phrases and the journey of the poem towards the last line. I really got a sense of hopelessness when I read it.
