Evacuee Life

by Yuvanthikha Rajmohan aged 9

I’m an evacuee, an evacuee,
I’m going to be evacuated you see,
We all have to get away from Adolf Hitler,
We think he’s so sinister,
So I got a train going to Westminster,

I am far from home,
All alone,
Been in our evacuee homes for more than a year,
We spent so long here,

I was muttering,
About the people suffering,
With less to eat,
Marching in the heat,

Here I feel safer,
Even with the people looking after me,
Give me a little wafer,
And cure me when I get stung by a bee,

I am scared about my mum and dad,
They are the only people I had,
When I came back,
The happiness started to lack,

When I couldn’t see my parents,
But soon I saw them alive,
Doing a jive
