Don’t Leave Me

by Inés Villalobos Finigan aged 16

Screaming out torture, clasping his arms,
Stabs in my chest, a sorrow so deep
Clutching his sweaty, cold, dying palms,
Don’t go, I beg you, I implore you, I weep.

My head’s going wild, trying to keep sane,
Tears in a torrent, pleading for life
Don’t leave me, keep breathing, again and again,
Hear me, it’s me, your faithful dear wife.

You’ll have a small child, who will grow, you will see,
You’ll watch her first steps, hear her first speech.
Your life is not over, I want you with me
So don’t go away, I beg and beseech.

You’re stronger than Death, you’ll beat him, I know.
Wake up, wake up, I’m screaming, I moan.
I need you, my husband, don’t leave me this woe,
I need you, I need you, don’t leave me alone.
