Dinner at Christmas

by Lola aged 9

At Christmas I ate
very late
it was all dark
when I ate the carp
as I ate out the pot
the soup was all hot.
Before we went to look under the tree
we ate lots of biscuits, especially me.

I waited for the knock
Clop, clop ,clop
Excited, I ran out the door
Hoping for more than I had seen before
I saw the presents with a shock
Started to think if they were good or not.

The lights were sparkling red and white
Despite the bobbles that looked like kites,
The night was over not a sound not a peep
As I fell calmly asleep.

Hi Ampfield people. As these are Christmas poems, I’m putting them into the Christmas competition. Hope that’s okay.
