Brown Eyes

by Iliana aged 11

Everybody loves coloured eyes,
Like the ones that glow right in front of you,
Like the ones that take you by surprise,
Like the ones that are hazel, green or blue

I’m jealous of eyes that glint like emeralds
Or eyes as calming as a morning sky
I wish I had eyes that twinkled
Because I have brown eyes

I find them dazzling though
And I cherish them dearly
They’re gentle, loving and warm
And they look like cups of coffee

They look like a box of chocolates
That you’d receive on Valentine’s Day
My love for my eyes is infinite
And it will never die away

But when I step in the sunlight
My eyes look like pools of honey
I feel confident outside
Because eyes look so sunny

Next time you feel upset
Because your eyes aren’t green or blue,
Tell yourself this:
My eyes are loved too.
