In My Box

by Matthew O'Keeffe aged 10

I will put in my box
The sandy-salted sea shells on the sea shore
A teddy with a rumbling belly
The epic Christmas spirit

I will put in my box
The rolling wheels of a car
A touch of the softest towel
The smell of lasagne

I will put in my box
A red-tailed fox, killing a cat
The feeling of the 11+
Passing the hardest thing

I will put in the box
Being myself that I have done before
Getting into trouble at school
The snow flying down

I will put in my box
The taste of a Christmas dinner
The smell of the sea washing everything up
A touch of a bee’s sting

I will jump in my box
And eat up all the bad memories
Never to be thought of again
