Bird’s Eye View

by Charis Ripley aged 9

Among the sky high trees
In the ghastly breeze
I heard a terrifying sound
Coming from the ground.

I can see people running here and there,
Just like they don’t care,
My fellow larks are freaking out,
But I’m not sure what it’s about.

Screaming so loud
In the huge crowd,
People lie in the mud,
I think I can see some blood.

Friendly folks,
A lot of blokes,
They’re not stopping,
People dropping.

Bones lie on the floor,
I can’t take any more,
Holes dug in the dirt,
Lots of men that are hurt.

I think it is finally done,
In the glistening sun,
The loud bangs have gone away,
Is it done, done today ?

Red flowers growing row on row
Below.
Graves everywhere,
People must really care.
