Black History Month

by Jaspreet aged 15

I once had a dream

A dream we’re everyone was united

Boys, girls, black, brown, white

No one cares about what’s on the outside

The rainbow would always shine proud

Great opportunities

Open doors always available for any race

People could just jump out of their comfort zone and shine like a star.

I once had a dream

A dream where everyone was proud of themselves

Not hiding there true colours and everyone would love and respect them

There would be no protest about anyone being different

Racism would be abolished, people would be respected for how they themselves would like to be respected.

But this dream is just an image, a story, a goal.

Another day goes past and the world is still trying to turn things around

Black history month reminds us that there are people with the most amazing backgrounds

Who used to be treated in unnecessary ways.

Look, Rosa Parks refused to do specific orders just because of her colour

Martin Luther King was a brilliant leader of civil rights (his speech was the inspirational for this poem)

We could all make that difference

Love all people as YOU want to be loved

Treat other people how YOU want to be treated

You are beautiful, it doesn’t matter whao’s on the outside

What matters is what’s on the inside!!!

Stay positive and happy black history month!!!
