A Year in My Garden

by Ethan Sullivan-Cressey aged 8

In the Springtime budding trees
Are teeming full with buzzing bees
In the breeze grass softly swaying
Happy children now are playing

The birds swoop madly in the sky
Like arrows there they swiftly fly
Building nests in trees and bushes
A busy time for jays and thrushes

In Summertime the sun is glowing
The plants and flowers are blissfully growing
Butterflies flutter from bloom to bloom
Tasting the flowers’ sweet perfume

Lazy days are long and bright
Lasting well into the night
The hum of insects in the heat
Are a constant, droning beat

In Autumn time the fallen leaves
Are a golden blanket under the trees
The squirrels madly gather food
To make sure they can feed their brood

The blustery winds whirl all around
Sweeping all across the ground
The days grow shorter, cold and dark
The naked trees are bold and stark

In Wintertime the ice and snow
Are diamonds with their glittering glow
All is barren, cold and still
Hiding from the gloomy chill

The animals are hid away
In cosy burrows there they stay
Dreaming of the Winter’s end
Knowing Spring will come again
