Innocence

0
by Teah Francis

I stand back and watch other kids’ dreams start to fade
Their hopes and visions vanish into the shade
As their innocence is taken from them and stripped away
All they have is what society gives them to say

Made to grow up and live like a man
they lose sight of school and opportunities at hand
Teenagers are a pain, they are numbed in the brain
ONLY because you took their innocence away

How are we supposed to thrive and be successful?
If the pressure you put on us is driving us mental
How are we supposed to fit in?
when we see our actions being claimed as sin

Take away the stereotype and the false identity
You’ll see how we act and how we are meant to be
Don’t tell us Confidence is key
If you’re the one taking it from me

How can we play on your side?
If you hold us behind the fence
How are we supposed to act our age?
If you take away our innocence…

Clutching at Straws

by Lucy Milton

They’re coming, they’re coming,
The Militia are coming,
They’re coming, they’re coming,
To take me away.

It’s rising, it’s rising,
The panic is rising,
It’s rising, it’s rising,
It’s coming out to play.

They’re taking, they’re taking,
The Militia are taking,
They’re taking, they’re taking,
And demanding some pay.

Just because we’re black,
Just because they’re white,
Just because they rule,
While we’re out of sight.

I’m dying, I’m dying,
But hope is not dying,
I’m dying, I’m dying,
I have nothing to say.

The Ocean

by Anya Cook

The Ocean
There it swayed,
In the glistening moonlight,
Rocking back and forth, back and forth.
The way the waves playfully lapped all across the mystical landscape,
It was as if they had been wishing to trance you…
The shimmering patterns each wave produced,
None quite like the other, had began to pound against each other;
Each a deafening roar, transforming into huge beasts one could never Imagine, diabolical when heaving with anger,
Crushing magnificent rocks into minuscule pebbles,
Which skimmed the vast waves.

The unrest in the outraged sea, would frighten even the bravest of watchers.
But suddenly, as if by magic,
The tempestuous ocean died down into the soothing, idyllic, picturesque scene it once was;
And you could once more hear the ocean forging its own sea-song,
The waves oozing onto the cream coloured sand of the beach,
Enticing the children into the majestic paradise it is known for.

Me Without You

by Maida Rasool

What’s KFC without chicken
What’s cereal without spoon
What’s tea without biscuit
What’s sky without moon?

What’s us without food
What’s mums without fuss
What’s teens without moods
What’s Earth without us?

What’s Captain without Hook
What’s Winnie without Pooh
What’s shelf without book
That’s me without you!

Society

by George Bate

Inside the modern world,
The pinnacle of society
Is a suit and clean shave
To lead to high class authority

Yet camouflaged uniform,
Who saw brothers fall and bleed
Stay left in squalor and dirt
Under the boot of the men in tweed

The public are refused
Employment and currency
For having inked skin
Or expressing their sexuality

So reclaim your creative right
From the silver spoons and ivory tower
To express the truth and spread it wide
And watch the affluent cower

A Lesson Taught By The Shades Of Autumn

by Tejal Jain

Sitting by the window
A storm going on in my head
My tear-streaked face
Eyes swollen and swelled up
Lips numb –
Unable to speak a word

Staring out the window, and I see
A beautiful picture
Painted by the colours of nature
Sky coloured in soothing shades
Of golden & red & orange
The trees gradually lose
Their yellow & orange & red leaves

While I, on the other hand
Now realize,
That everything may not be all bad
Though yet it seems impossible
She’s leaving – Yes! My best friend
Moving to the other corner of the world
Where it’s going to be day when night’s fallen here

But… I suppose, I’ve to let it go
She’s happy
And trying so hard to fight it out
So, I’ve got to be happy too
We’ll always be in touch
Though it won’t really be the same
As our good old days – together always!

But just as the trees shed their leaves
With the knowledge that they’ll come back,
When the time is ripe
In my heart, I know
It’s true…
She’ll come back when the time is right
She’ll come back soon

Teens

Teens
Thirteen wanting to explore
Growing up fast but still want to doss
All teen kids stick together ,
But still need to do their homework
Teens so good to hang around with
But can’t stop the flow of banter
So willing and kind they want to have everything
Teen kids can be strong as they all
Stick together
Respect ,grow, encourage one another

Pathetic Thing

by Kundai Chikowero

Ares god of war
Tall and handsome, vain and cruel
But can’t handle pain

Acts nothing like Zues
Son of incredible Zeus
Worst of all his kids

Eris is his friend
They are glad when blood is shed
Fight with all your might

Loved by Aphrodite
But hated by Athena
Poor cruel Ares

People We’ll Meet

0
by Lyric Jerelos

I like to believe that we are made of atoms and sometimes,
we bond together creating a thing called love.
There is someone out there for us, for everyone.

The places that we haven’t been to also hold people we haven’t spoken to yet.
There are over 7 billion people in this world and growing.

Some will break your heart and some will stay in your life for a very long time.

I like to believe there is good in everyone but the matter of the fact is,
people change. We change every day.

Our friends that we have now, we may keep in the future but others
are not destined to be in your life.
There are plenty of people left to meet.

I’d like to believe life slows down.
However, that it’s true.
Life is a never ending event of twist and turns.

An Angel…

by Molly

An angel crossed my path.
Was it real or just scientific math?

You never know these days,
But according to my brain,
If I remember rightly, it all began with an aim
Of which erupted not so lightly.

As I prepared myself for what lay ahead,
No easy task: I tried to clear my head.
The honeymoon period; fresh and new,
That fluttery excitement, oh only you.

Please understand that simply all of the above
p*ss referring to my job, no man of my dreams.
I could never make do with a whom
Because of his endeavour in angel delight
And sewing his own seams.
How fitting, man I’m bright
*nodding in agreement*
Wow, you’re all so polite.

I’ll let you in on the secret:
My nights were sleepless
For my mind was relentless.
Hours of hard work, in the back of the shop
Allowed by the clerk;
Tick tick tick of the clock.
‘Push through the mocks,’ said my mother pairing the socks.
“Ignore the hate; they’ll all care too late.”

Bbum bbum my heart pounded;
It was the day of results; my alarm sounded.
Much to my chagrin, my enemies were there.
Little did I know, they failed and I passed.
Prodigies and geniuses; who’s who?
It was all a scare.
There’s a difference?
Indeed there is
I mean I’d go into detail but to be honest,
You’re looking a little pale.

Not that I’m surprised, it’s a lot to take in:
Me and you; so different within.
Fear not, the achievable shall be achieved,
Though please, don’t go easy on the greens.
Really, they’re all you need.
Forget the girls who have nothing in their vocabulary
Except the word lush, give them a good shush – you’re in luck.
I know its pure ‘effort’, what a shame,
It’s just – that’s what motivation is for, dear,
Not to stay tame. Just completed my homework:
Eyes drooping; thoughts looping,
Another one to check off the list.
If I wasn’t so tired I’d throw up a fist

Now move aside, because if you don’t mind
I’d like to get back to my one true love
(take note of what I said before: I say
no to men, what do you take me for)
I mean, what can I say? I’m an atheist,
Oh how much I tend to digress,
You couldn’t expect any less.
An angel crossed my path.
Was it real or just scientific math?
