Uncomfortable Silence

1
by Harshita Das

Chatterbox, we used to be called
For we never knew how to stop banter
We had Roles to play
And we played them dutifully
Tactfully dodging around issues
Quips and insults with no bite
Together, we made the world into a cosmic joke
Our masks were our friendship…

And then we Talked
Genuine talk; instead of jokes
We yelled at each other
We complimented each other
Bared our souls together
They say letting people into your heart makes you Closer
It doesn’t
It just makes it awkward

Our previous quips and insults now seemed oddly personal
We couldn’t meet the other’s eyes
We’d say an awkward hello
And proceed to walk in the opposite direction

We Tried to preserve our friendship,
But it was oddly exhausting
Treating each other like porcelain
Silence began its slow, uncomfortable descent
Until we didn’t acknowledge each other anymore

Sets the sun, pitches
the dark. Blink. Rises the sun,
bright light everywhere.

You glow just like a pearl

I Will Burn

0
by Mehvish Mehboob

You jeer and jest at me, savouring my anguish
Do you think I do not know?
How you feed your insatiable desires by gorging upon my grief
How your body and mind are alike
in the sense that both are starved of sustenance and sagacity

Oh, I understand the satisfaction. the satisfaction in watching you drain of life
as every last drop of your pitiful being spills
My creatures of night devouring every trickle
Oh yes, I understand the blood-lust and vengeance you feel

But what you did to my sisters
my saccharine, naïve sisters
whose only crime was to help you and your
puny, mortal kind
Oh, how you shall pay

You thought you could destroy me
but you forget
fire, my servant, bows down to me
I am fire
my flesh, my blood, my soul
a mere extension of the hellish depths below

Take me to the stake
and the carnage I will leave behind,
the darkness and ruination like Lucifer,
you will silently scream
and I will feast on your sweet sorrow like you do on mine

All witches burn you say
O yes
I will burn

We need to stay home,

Eleven years of work
So sad and Drew’s of berths
My mummy is yummy
And I like gummy sweets
So why do I have to do work
Eleven years of work, you’re so boring

You Knew

You knew
You knew I was coming for you
You knew you were in trouble
You knew you were soon to be dead
You knew that you were in danger
You knew the people you loved were in danger
You knew that I wouldn’t stop
You knew I’d keep coming
You knew that you couldn’t hide
You knew no no one would believe you
You should have tried harder
Thanks to you
You know the people you love are in danger
