Chatterbox, we used to be called
For we never knew how to stop banter
We had Roles to play
And we played them dutifully
Tactfully dodging around issues
Quips and insults with no bite
Together, we made the world into a cosmic joke
Our masks were our friendship…
And then we Talked
Genuine talk; instead of jokes
We yelled at each other
We complimented each other
Bared our souls together
They say letting people into your heart makes you Closer
It doesn’t
It just makes it awkward
Our previous quips and insults now seemed oddly personal
We couldn’t meet the other’s eyes
We’d say an awkward hello
And proceed to walk in the opposite direction
We Tried to preserve our friendship,
But it was oddly exhausting
Treating each other like porcelain
Silence began its slow, uncomfortable descent
Until we didn’t acknowledge each other anymore
