Little Happy Family

1
by Elsie King

In a sunny field,
Sat on the grass and leaves,
Children toddling around me,
Dressed in sweet blue dungarees,

You chasing them around,
Laughter echoing from their mouths,
Me painting the beautiful scene,
Our future memories painted permanently,

Our dog is racing around,
Joining in with the fantastic game,
Eventually tackling everyone to the ground,
But still laughter all the same,

A picnic is layed out in front of us,
Lots of sweets and treats to eat,
Smiles playing upon everyone’s lips,
A happy sight to see,

Wild flowers are growing around us,
Making everything seemingly brighter,
Bees are buzzing around in the sky,
And butterflies as they flitter-flutter,

This future filled with happiness,
How I’d love it to be,
You and me and our children,
Our little, happy family.

It’s a Shame

It’s a shame,
That our daughters will have to grow up being afraid.

It’s a shame,
That we blame women for what they were doing or wearing,
Instead of teaching our sons about how they should act.

It’s a shame,
That people say ‘It’s not all men’ ,
But it’s enough men for women to be afraid.

It’s a shame,
That women aren’t getting the justice they deserve,
But still get told that it was their fault.

It’s a shame,
That women can’t go out for a drink with friends,
Because they are terrified that their drink is spiked
or someone might take advantage of them when they are vulnerable.

It’s a shame,
That children have to go through this as well,
Nobody can blame a child for what happened to them
as they aren’t even at age to understand what happened to them.

It’s a shame,
That people still go through things like this on a daily basis,
Being ‘cat-called’ and taken advantage of.

It isn’t right that people have to go through this,
It isn’t right that anyone of any gender has to go through this,
But it still happens regardless.

Where is the Equality

by Caitlyn

We treat the rich right and the poor wrong,
We give the gay a day and everyone else a normal year,
We give the black a day and everyone else a normal year,
But what about everyone else , my brothers and sisters in Christ die
for what they believe in and are not being treated equally,
Why is this so?
We live everyday just like anyone else hoping to survive,
We have family, friends, and others we love dearly,
so why do we not get treated the same as everyone else
, the world is a messes up place and without the holy spirit the world will be lost
But no one will listen to 15 year old
Hopefully I can reach someone and make a small difference

winter night

warm houses tucked under snows’ duvet
frothing hills and snoozing chimneys
soft smoking trails paint black against ice
dreams navigate the night
every mind alight
pulling mornings cover
bright over nodding heads

conversations condense over coffee cupped in palms
the fire fights back as cold crawls through cracks
light’s globes dot the walls
while amongst the steam and whistling calls
chatter flaps and days take flight
sealed safe in this glass bright
touching hands and warm milk take wing
awaiting what the time may bring

The darkness in the light
The joy in the sadness,
The life within death
The end within the beginning…

Childhood (Happy Children’s Day)

0
by Harshita Das

As a species, us humans cannot agree on much
Yet across all cultures, all races, all wealth gaps and such
We’ve collectively decided that our children, we must cherish
Even in prisons, those who hurt kids mysteriously perish

Children are innocent, mischievous and cruel
Your sadness are their tears; your frustration is their fuel
We can never relive our own childhoods,
The feelings of experiencing the world, differentiating the bad from the good
Those days are lost to the eternally ebbing tides of times

But there are children today, living in a different world, living the same lives we did all those years ago
Slowly learning to learn, live and grow
Our only responsibility is to take care of the seeds we sow
Time takes care of the ebb and flow

Swimming to the Shore

Hate, Misogyny, Discrimination,
Racism, Casteism,
Murders and Crimes,
Highlights media, newspapers, and articles,
Summing up to the term “Hopeless Humanity”

I mindlessly watched as arrows slaughtered their rights and lives,
And I knew I could not make a difference,
For the 8 billion,
So I sat silent and watched,
As tears streamed down from my hopeless eyes.

I couldn’t light up this dark tunnel,
And slid down, hopeless,
I sank into the darkness, giving myself away.
Afraid to stand up.

I was hopeful at first, lost my grip to the end
I was motivated once, then put down by many
I waited, hoping for a miracle
To change this hopeless humanity

I heard voices as I kept sinking,
Voices of the buried:
“Raise your voice, As we did once
Don’t let their words bury you
Let them spur you to stand up and fight back”

And so I swam to the shore,
Lit up the darkness with the little hope I had left,
Ready to rise and stand up,
Not alone, but together with many injured yet hopeful others,
Ready to change hopeless humanity.

In The Rain

It was raining
It was raining so loud,
I was searching a shade
Then I saw you,

You gave me a warm smile
And It said,
”Don’t come, It is raining here too”
