Birthday and Christmas

1
by Sophie aged 11

Birthdays here and there
Wonder what it will be
Comes round quickly
Ends quickly

Cakes and candy
Lots of things to eat
Treats don’t last
But some do

Next comes Christmas
Where has the time gone?
There are carols
But first shopping

Crackers to be pulled
Jokes are to be told
Christmas trees are put up
Then Christmas dinner

Winter

by Lolol aged 11

Winter is round the corner
That means Christmas
Stockings are filled
Go to sleep

Santa’s been
Children open presents
Sweets are eaten
Crackers are opened

Jokes are told
Some laugh
Some don’t
Some don’t get it

Snowy Day

0
by Genesis O’Kine aged 11

A pearly, shimmering blanket covers the city floor
I dash on my coat, hat and gloves and fix a holly upon my door
I grab the snow and create a charming snowman with a broad beam
I then head back to the house for my hot chocolate topped with whipped cream
I watch the snow fall onto my parents car
Then glance at the Christmas tree with a golden, glistening star!

Christmas Cheer

2
by Elsie aged 13

Zero degrees,
Christmas trees,
Noses red from the freezing breeze,
Santa calling,
Children snoring,
Stockings being opened on Christmas morning,
Sheets of snow,
Christmas lights glow,
Reindeer gazing at houses below,
Christmas cheer,
The jingle of reindeer,
Santa Claus is on his way!
In his magical sleigh.

It’s Our World

by Iona Mandal aged 13

WINNER

Ostrich feathers on her hat
A coat from leopard skin
Collar and sleeves from real bear fur
On her waist a belt of snakeskin.

Ivory rings dangle from her ears
Real corals around her neck
She clutches her crocodile purse
Sheep fur boots on her legs

Carrying the world and its continents
Tropics, poles and seas
Mrs. Posh Ruthless kills to dress
And happily dresses to kill.

Her ignorance and vanity
Makes poachers greedy and cruel
In rain forests, highlands, rivers and reefs
Threatening species to death.

Every living creature belongs to this world
For the present and the next
So learn to value, Mrs. Posh
Or it will be too late.
