by Hitakshi aged 10

It was the night of Christmas Eve, the war stopped.
They all played football.
No one knew why but war was stopped.
1945 came then they knew.
It was because it was the night of peace
It was the night of Christmas Eve when the war stopped

Santa Are You There?

3
by Hanshika Mandal aged 10

I may hear the sleigh bells ring but I can’t see Santa.
I can hear the magic reindeer click but I can’t see Santa.
I can see the empty cup of sherry and half eaten mince pie but I just can’t see Santa.
Oh m,y dear Santa all the children are scared they cannot see any present anywhere.
The Christmas tree stands idle, guarding no presents at all
Santa are you there for once and for all?

It’s out of yellow sponge,
Putting pink icing all over,
YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY,
Covering it in sprinkles,
Getting my sister,

‘Twas the Night of Christmas

by Andrew Tinsley aged 9

‘Twas the night of Christmas as the fire was crackling,
All of the family were happily laughing.
The Christmas carollers were at the door,
Coming to sing to the poor.

The Christmas tree lights were twinkling,
It was so bright my eyes were blinking.
The stockings were hung by the fire place,
As the baby’s new toy was pushed to a high pace.

The leftover turkey was set to the side,
all of its hot heat had died.
As the little children were cooing,
I wondered what Santa Claus was doing.

The Christmas Gift

0
by Fathima Muneer aged 14

Lifeless like a pole I sat
In the far end from the hustle of Christmas
Melted snow freezing my bones
Icicles dripping on my head.

I see smiles all around me
Everyone walks perfume scented
Fresh and clean
And I sit
Rotten and rust.

Christmas is about happiness, they say
But all I get is ignored looks
Not a smile comes to my wrinkled face
Not a single tear of joy.

Christmas is about togetherness
But I am all alone
In the middle of a buzzing city
Far away from ‘home’.

My only companion is God
For God knows.
How much I’ve gone through,
The shrouding pain I’ve been in.

My faith in God is my only HOPE,
I know I will not live long
But I know I will die with a smile
I know God will bless me after death.

Whenever I see others
I remember my carefree days
Decades ago. an unimaginable life,
But I know God is smiling at my patience.

I know I will have to suffer
But I will spare a smile
Every Christmas people wait for gifts
And this year I hope God takes me away soon
An end to my hardships
And enter the place I’ve longed to see
The gift called HEAVEN.

O Little Town of Abingdon

4
by Edmund Kimber aged 10

O little town of Abingdon
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
Santa’s sleigh comes creeping by
Yet in the dark streets shineth
The everlasting excitement
The hopes and ambitions of Christmas time
Are met in thee tonight

For Santa is born of who actually knows
And gathered by no-one we speak of
While children sleep, the elves look out
For immoral children stealing undeserved presents
O morning mince pies mysteriously gone
Proclaim the jolly celebration
And carol singers sing for hope that their repulsive kids
Will learn a valuable lesson (provided it’s before Santa arrives)

How silently, how silently
Santa descends right from the chimney
So the kids freak out and finally go to sleep
And dream of a perfect Christmas (in case they don’t get one)
No ear may hear his coming
But in this world of sin
Where naughty kids will receive him still
Though Santa enters in

O demanding child of Abingdon
Shall receive an unwanted present
Cast out your voice and criticise the rules
If all you want coal in a bucket
We hear the Christmas sleigh bells
The great glad tidings tell
O come to us, celebrate with us
Our “slave”, Father Christmas

Five Little Reindeer

0
by Srilakshmi aged 10

Five little reindeer playing in the snow
The first one said,
“Can you see my nose glow?”
The second one said
“Listen to me sing!”
The third one said
“I can hear the bells ring.”
The fourth one said
“Lets eat pie!”
The fifth one said
“I’m ready to fly.”
Then clomp went their hooves
And the snow fell white
As the five little reindeer
flew out of sight.
