The Lavender Field

0
by Jessica Sowter aged 11

The lavender field so blue and bright
Like a field of hope come rushing in
On a summer’s night
with a gentle breeze
feeling the lavender
brushing along your hands
as the sun drifts away over the hills

I remember those days
like they were yesterday
those summer days in the lavender field
so quiet and peaceful
As the last summer sun
just drifted away
the last days of summer
then just went away.

The Mouse in the House

0
by Miley aged 11

The house has a mouse
and the mouse hears the clock
go tick tock, tick tock
the owner catches the mouse
but it squeezes through the fingers
and the cat goes under the mat
to catch the mouse
but it never got caught

No Ordinary Picture

0
by Nour Ben Khalifa aged 12

This is no ordinary picture
It’s full of vivid memories
I held it out and gazed
A flood of memories gushed past
Oh my! The past doesn’t last

So, remember
This looks like a picture, but no…
It’s full of secrets, full of life
from another world; another dimension
That flows without intention

This is no ordinary picture
Yet it’s full of wonder
True, it’s old; timeworn
But as vivid as yesterday
And shiny like tomorrow

This is no ordinary picture
I hung it on the wall
Near the entrance
Not far from the exit
Inside my heart, on the hanger of memories

Happy or sad you shall remember
This is no ordinary picture
Full of talking silence
That takes you away
Where you won’t stray

The house you resided
The horse you rode
The people you loved
The heart you enchanted
Just remember, this is no ordinary picture

I Should Like To

0
by Eve Blightman Bell aged 11

I should like to feel the song of a songbird,
hear the coming of summer and winter.
I should like to ride on the clouds and forget all my sadness,
to touch happiness when it is near.
I should like to fly on a firework and let my true colours shine.
I should like to live in a world where only happiness lives,
where everyone has someone to hold them when they need it.
End all times we hurt our planet.
I should like to paint the future,
steal the strength of the wind.
I should like to hold the world in my hands,
keep the night in a jar.

WINNING POEM

The light

0
by Summer King aged 11

Times were rough
But he never gave up,
He never stopped working,
Although he was that youngest and the shortest,
He didn’t want to let anyone down.
He saw the smoke and the fire,
And heard men charging at him,
Down he went,
All he could see at first was pitch black,
He could still hear all the men’s voices,
Then,
Light is what he saw,
Hemisphere body seem like a feather,
His legs didn’t hurt,
He watched everyone from above,
He smiled and peacefully walked slowly away,
Seeing the white doves pass by him.

Nature

Three trees around me.
Birds fluttering around me.
Different flowers.

My Imagination

0
by Lily Robinson aged 11

My parents see a little girl doing her homework
But I see myself sitting on a dragon as I fly gracefully through the sky,
At least that’s what I see in my imagination

My teacher sees a little girl getting on with maths
But i see myself jumping on clouds as I stroke each one
At least that’s what I see in my imagination

My friends see a little girl running to tag people
But I see myself launching to space collecting stars
At least that’s what I see in my imagination

A boy who teases me sees me sitting there and ignoring him,
But I’m really not.
I’m standing there smiling to myself, thinking about how he has no imagination.
I know better than to get annoyed with a person who doesn’t.

WINNING POEM

Just a Child

0
by Isabelle aged 12

I may be young, and not know much,
But I still see the world, and how such
Great ideas are left unsaid
Because I’m told I don’t understand yet

We want to help, but what can we do?
Some children aren’t even allowed to choose
Who they are and who they love
All because they “Haven’t lived long enough”

The world you’re destroying will be ours to inhabit
So if you will, please spare a moment,
If you let your ignorance run wild
How will the world look when I’m not just a child?

The Year 2020

0
by Azzurra aged 11

No one expected this terrible time
Everyone thought 2020 would be fine
It has been the worst year ever
I want this to be all a dream

Quarantine hit us hard
Harder than I thought it would
I wish COVID would just stay at home
And leave us all alone
