Books

by Connie Williams aged 11

Reading is escaping, escaping from your fears
From worries or problems or any sorts of drears
You draw the picture, you set the stage
You have the ability to break free from your cage
Every chapter a journey, every page a delight
Every word is savoured, every word that they write
All books own their own knowledge, every one of them do
So remember that when you open up a new place to go to

Elephant

0
by Madeleine Kirkman aged 11

Elephant appears in Savannah without hesitation
what a loud-stomper out of haven with no rotation.

Lost in the sound of the Asian –
emperors these shape-shifters are sure noise-makers
but you’ll only ever hear a bird-whistler
or a hungry-muncher and sometimes (only sometimes)
an actual elephant

Even this jungle-warrior is a life-risker
for when its newborn is by its side it’s a calf-saver,
but if something goes wrong
there’s always a compassion-giver
and in the end they’re always together.

Put your things aside and dream big!
Ever wanted to be that elephant kid?
That true-survivor, that big-banger?

Sprint to the Savannah elephant-dreamer,
slit your skin and alter your matter,
spill your outer being into elephant
and appear now as elephant
without hesitation into Savannah .

How I See the World

0
by Brooke Warner aged 13

All black lives matter,
so don’t think its okay to act out poor,
because you might have the police
knocking at your door.
The coronavirus is getting out of hand
and we need to make it better.

Alone

0
by Evie Nicholson aged 11

Feeling trapped inside a cage,
With no one to engage.
Shouldn’t I be free?
Does no one agree?
Being all alone,
Everyone has flown.
Will I ever be together with at least one other?
I wish I had another.
I have a vision,
I will connect with someone who will love me.

The Lonely Flower

0
by Amelia Green aged 10

Out in the autumn air, the lonely flower sat,
She was flooded in a pool of tears.
All she wanted is a friend,
The flower is as blue as the deep, deep ocean.
Every day she looks out, sulking,
The children have taken all of her friends,
And she’s scared they’ll take her too…

Out in the rain, cold and dark,
She started to shout and scream.
The leaves started to fall on her,
Bruising her glamorous petals.

One day someone heard her cry,
So they picked her up gently.
They put her in their garden,
Under a huge oak tree.
It was cosy, breezy and quiet,
And she is no longer alone…

Ask Yourself

0
by Asia Chin-roberts aged 15

How many people do you know,
Are there people you dislike,
Do you categorise or stereotype?
What a bore, if we were all alike.
People come and they go,
Life’s to short,
Don’t let them know,
Live and let live,
Damn best motto,
Try not to hate,
You may be the one,
Who begins to disintegrate

World Crazy

0
by Wynta Chin-roberts aged 12

World is crazy
What a place we are living in,
Can’t believe what my eyes are seeing,
Makes me ashamed to be a human being,
Disrespecting mothers also our fathers,
Youths getting run down by the undercovers,
Raids on the streets,
turning up the heat,
Only seems like the richest living sweet,
While the poor fight for the meat,
Terror, anger in a youngsters minds,
By the truth nuff of them are blind, blind,
World is great yet crazy for all mind kind.

Night Sky

0
by Demi aged 11

The dark blue night sky lying beautifully.
The moon shimmering among the peaceful waves
rolling up against the shore.
Shooting stars flying past like sparklers on New Year’s Eve.
Lights starting to turn off, shops starting to close
The sky starting to set and people going to sleep.
