2020 Vision

by Freddie Bailey aged 10

Perfect eyesight that’s what my brother has,
He says he could be a pilot and all that jazz.

But it’s only vision that’s short-sighted for me,
Life in 2020 I can clearly see.

Coronavirus arrived and changed how we live,
Remain at home was advice the Prime Minister tried to give.

How school changed learning through Teams,
The new norm, my lessons and teachers on screens.

But in all the worry and numbers of deaths the news told us,
Lockdown life was different with less of the fuss.

Appreciating keyworkers and clapping with others,
I spoke more to friends and with my grandmothers.

I discovered my bike and cycling in the wood,
And family walks as the car on the drive it just stood.

My telescope, out of the box it finally came,
The night sky clear, the stars so bright they looked aflame.

Flour, sugar, butter and eggs came out for baking,
A weekly conveyor belt of cakes we were making.

And so we wait for a vaccine to be made,
Hopefully a cure and not just a Band-Aid.

We carry on social distancing and in our school bubble,
Until coronavirus goes and gives us no more trouble.

A Magical World

A world of magic,
One full of beasts.
A world of magical gadgets,
One of things yet to be released.

Imagination that has gone wild,
Visions that have run free.
Imagination of a child,
Visions that make me an escapee.

A world of magic,
One full of beasts.
A world of magical gadgets,
One of things yet to be released.

Imagination of a world,
Visions of my own.
Imagination I observe,
Visions that are yet to be known.

Virus has gone.
It’s new world once again.
Sure you felt pain
It made you stronger than ever.
On this earth, emerged disgust & sadness
Nevertheless, we all will find our happiness.

WINNING POEM

V isualizing your dreams into reality

I view the world through cloudy eyes
O ptimistic thoughts run through my mind
N obody here to judge me, just me myself and I

If Only

by Isobelle aged 16

If I could walk in your shoes,
I would dance in the rain,
And run through the streets.
I would retrace your steps,
And relive your most beautiful moments.

If I could see through your eyes,
I would show you how colourful the world can be,
I would paint the skies your favourite shade of blue,
And create the most beautiful art.

You were my teacher,
You showed me how to see the beauty in the world,
Even when all I saw was darkness.

So now it’s my turn,
I’ll hold the torch
And show you the way.

If only I could walk in your shoes,
If only I could see through your eyes,
If only.

Fall

We all start as that joyful green leaf
that green leaf that sways
back and forth in the endless breeze
That green leaf
that’s just sparked with happiness
through spring and summer
That green leaf that screams with excitement
exploring the world and trying to find value
That green leaf that is full of curiosity
full of humor and love
That green leaf that, as time goes by,
grows and develops and eventually starts to see change
That green leaf that starts to slow down
and steadily shows holes
That green life that is now
a mourning purple to a dangerous red
to a blinding orange to a dirty brown
to a passionless yellow
That green leaf that starts to lose strength
and has turned that exciting laugh
to an accepted and peaceful grin
That green leaf that eventually starts to fall down
to an unknown world as it replays the memories
of its life in a quick second
That green leaf that closes its eyes and
comes to a rest

School Starts

It’s the first day of secondary;
New school, new beginnings;
My mum shouts me for breakfast, I’ll be there in a minute.
I’m in a rush, don’t want to be late for the bus;
But I have to give my hair a brush.
My anxiety kicks in as I walk down the halls;
All I’m trying to think is not to fall.
Everyone is watching me;
Why can’t they just let me be?

On One Summer’s Evening

by Hannah Randall aged 11

One one summer’s evening,
Walking along the beach,
Watching seagulls just out of reach,
The soft sand in between my toes,
A gentle breeze blowing me side to side,
The sea crashing behind me so wide,
The brightness of the sun,
Clouds fading in the darkness,
The sun setting on the sea,
All by myself with no one but me.

VISION

0
by Joshua Harrison aged 14

What is this before me?
Ever so colourful and bright,
And yet dark as night?
To my left, it starts to shimmer
As a swan floats through a river.
What is this illusion, that causes a feeling to cry?
Is it actually a projection inside of my eye?
The colours spin, the lake stops to shimmer,
Now a feeling so cold I start to shiver.
A thousand knives
To snatch a thousand lives,
Is this a dream or a nightmare?
And then I saw
In shock and awe
What the world for many was like.
The feeling of desperation
Mixed with my burning bright imagination
Restored my previous view once more,
And everything was colourful and bright
And the swan drifted down the river.
But as I looked back into the dark holes
Of the pleading, dying souls
I decided to let them free.
I gave them a part of my eye,
My colourful, bright imagination
And the dream of being like a swan swimming down a river.
With one eye lost
I knew the cost
For I returned the poor victims their vision.

Beauty of The Seaside

by Lola Pinder aged 11

As seagulls glide through the sky,
Bubbles of waves crash and bash,
As coldness echoes through the frosted air,
Bitterness steams away at windows
As the world settles down for its winter sleep
