Christmas Nonsense

Snow flutters down to the ground,
I look down…
Slippy snow, I go ahead,
I then fall over on my head,
Snowmen dance around me,
Using canes of candy,
To steady themselves,
Then I hear bells,
Santa is flying up above,
Like a swiftly swooping dove,
Then he lands on a roof,
And goes down the chimney with a POOF!
With his sack of presents close behind,
He waves and gives a wink of an eye,
The reindeer dance upon the house,
As if they have seen a little mouse,
Then Santa sets off, flying far away,
And the eight reindeer lead the sleigh,
The sun starts rising,
I hear a call – which is surprising,
It was my own Mother’s voice,
I then opened my eyes,
But only then did I realize,
That all of what I had seen…
Was a dream.

A Christmas Alliteration Celebration

Competition Winner

Cotton covers the crisp, cold centre,
Fabulous fairy-lights festively flicker,
Santa’s sleigh swiftly soars,
Sleepy siblings snooze and snore,
Cute cottages are Christmas cosy,
And red robins rosy,
Snowflakes spinning, spiralling, swirling,
Fantastic food, families are feasting,
Towering tree, tinsel, twinkling,
Rudolph and reindeer, racing, rocketing,
Saint Nick singing sleigh-bell songs,
Goodnight gatherings as the great bell gongs.

Why Do We Care that Christmas is a Thing

Winning Poem

Why do we care that Christmas is a thing,
all it brings you is joy and suspense.
But don’t get me wrong it’s a lovely time of the year,
but why, why, why
do we care that Christmas is a thing?

Well I’ll tell you why,
when we wake up on Christmas Day
we think of the paper scrunching
as we open our presents.
We hear the eerily quiet moment
when everyone wants to see
what’s behind the present.

But this may not be a time for joy
as so many more will cry for time.
This year has filled us with the thing we hate,
it’s sadness you see
and sadness is not what we want to see.
It’s the nagging fear of being next to enter
the Room we think is hexed,
it’s like being the big X,
people stay clear from the thing we despise

But it’s not you they despise
it’s the smaller things they despise,
it’s something else,
it takes joy from the world and turns it into hate,
but you see why, why, why do we care that Christmas is a thing.
You see it’s the thought of being back together as one big piece,
the thought of having a laugh with one big thing,
knowing that your empty thing is your heart
which is whole again.

Mr Snowman

10am rush outside
To a white wonderland to play
Fluffy snow, collapsing below
On this chilly, wintery day

In great big groups
Gather up the snow
Roll into balls, your duty calls
As the wind begins to blow

Add a carrot as a nose
And some coal
Wood for arms
More snow to roll

A hat and a scarf
To keep him warm
Snow flurrying, wind hurrying
The evil snowstorm

Morning is here
White is the ground
Snowflakes, Christmas cakes
Not a single sound

Outside he stands tall
And I know I’m proud
Because I know he can
My beloved snowman
Can stand
Through the storm

Candy Cane Mistletoe

by Charlottei aged 10

Presents and parcels wrapped in paper
Chocolate with candies and filled with wafer

Fir branches and berries stacked like towers
Pine cones and holly spiking like flowers

Spiced figs, cinnamon sticks and dried fruit
A woollen beanie and fluff from my boot

Candles, warm fires and candy canes
Santa travels through roads and lanes

My face turns red as wind blows my hair
A magical twinkle in the air

My Christmas

by Charlottei aged 10

Twinkling lights
Against the navy night sky
A robin soars heights
Singing as he flies by

Carol singers at my door
Settling snow, peaceful as a dove
Wispy snowflakes brush the floor
And crunch as feet walk above

Bitter winds and icy sludge
The river full of bubbles and foam
Frozen to the ground I can’t budge
It’s cold so I decide to head home

The warm fire
Flames crackle
I start to tire
Sleepiness I tackle

Morning is here
Early and bright
Alone I fear
I shall wait for daylight

A tree decorated top to toe
With twinkling Christmas stars
Squeaky presents hidden below
So bright you can see them from Mars!

The halls decked with holly
I’m smiling like a winner
I’m happy and jolly
But just wait for dinner

Pork and apples
Cabbage and potatoes
Mince pies and milk
My face glowing, my cheeks rose

Happy familiar people
Filled with cheer
The church bell in the steeple
Happy new year!

Santa Help Me

Hey Santa Clause,
Because I am bored
I’ve started to snore
I need help
Please send an alarm clock.
Love the sleepy bear from the 2013 John Lewis Xmas advert

Christmas Cake

by Charlottei aged 10

Spongy and soft
Spices and fruit dried
This recipe is easy
If you use this guide

Stir in some roasted nuts
Toasted and warm
Gently mix
Don’t rage like a storm

Butter and sugar
Eggs and flour
Bake in the oven
For just under an hour

Take it out and cool
For minutes ten
After time has passed
That is when

You prepare your marzipan
Roll with a pin
‘til your white fresh marzipan
Gets slightly thin

Layer on top
Your scrumptious cake
Smoothen it out
For goodness sake

Add decorations
Sweets and glitter
Put your wrappers in the garbage
Do not litter

Now making this cake
We had fun
Lastly, eat the cake
Now we are done!

Christmas

Christmas is a time to celebrate and thank,
For maybe when you borrowed money from the bank,
You might have finally got a pet,
Or cared for a friend you have met.

Christmas Magic

by Marianne Will aged 8

Carols are loud and baaa-eautiful.
Holly is red, green and prickly.
Robins sing sweet songs.
Ice and snow are glittering by the minute.
Santa is magical and magnificent.
Tinsel is colourful and thin.
Merry Christmas to everyone.
Angels are helpful and kind.
Stockings are cool and fluffy.
