I’ll Never Have Tea (with a bee)

by Alexandra Prideaux aged 8

I’ll never have tea with a bee.
I’ll never have tea with a wasp.
I’ll never have tea with a flea.
They wouldn’t want tea with me!

I’ll never have tea with a goat;
It’d eat all my clothes (and my coat)!
I’ll never have tea with a horse;
It’d eat all my apples (of course).
I’ll never have tea with a rabbit;
It’d eat all my veg (it’s a habit).
I’ll never have tea with a mouse;
It’d eat all the cheese in my house.

No, I’ll never have tea with a bee
and I’ll never have tea with a wasp.
I’d never have tea with a flea.
Won’t you have tea with me?

Into the Savannah

RUNNER UP

Swiftly the grass rustles,
A gazelle stands proud amongst the greenery,
The orange blends in so well with the grass.
The Gazelle continues to munch
And without a hesitation,
The tiger leaps out in front,
But the Gazelle is too quick,
It sprints away but that isn’t the end,
The tiger chases after it,
Time is quick,
Flashes of colour warn the animals of the predator,
Then the tiger loses sight of the Gazelle,
But he will return.

Pride of a Lion

0
by Samiksha aged 10

A lion hunts for its food,
A lion has a pride,
A lion is the king of a jungle,
A lion is very strong,
But sometimes very rude.

An elephant is the biggest land animal,
An elephant can’t jump,
An elephant reproduces when it’s 16 years old,
An elephant is so big that lions get scared of them,
An elephant is a vegetarian,
But they might fall.

A tiger is in the cat family,
A tiger kills about twice a week,
A tiger lives alone,
A tiger is the world largest cat,
A tiger likes to swim,
A tiger quietly hunts at night.
But tigers are not very free.

Animals are amazing,
Animals are nice,
Animals are important,
Animals help the world,
Animals need help too,
Animals are cute,
Animals are scary,
But don’t let them die because they are DYING!!!

The Hedgehog

by Polly Cook aged 6

A hedgehog
Sat on a log
He hears a noise
Of children playing with toys
Rolls into a ball
To make himself very small
When he wakes up he looks around
He sniffs the ground
He plods along
His prickles spiky and long

RUNNER UP

Tigers and lions fight and fumble
Elephants huge – hear the rumble
Rats and mice, small and humble
The monkey temple will it tumble?
The whale sings the grinding mumble
The animal kingdom – watch it crumble

A Cheetah Running Free

0
by Mahroosh Qasim aged 9

You know how fast a Cheetah can go.
Sometimes they are actually captured!
You may be thinking, What?
How can someone catch the fastest animal.
But when Cheetahs are free
They run around not caring

Animals are Great

by Abbygail Kearney aged 8

There are lots of animals out there
Big, tall, some that have lots of hair.
There are some that are pets, cats, dogs and so much more
But some are as big as a door.
Some animals are dangerous though,
like snakes, spiders lions and so much more.
Some are so tiny like butterflies, ladybugs
and tinier bugs,
Some people are even scared of bugs!
But you know it’s life and life is good
so animals are
the same too.

Captive

1
by Charlottei Christiansen aged 10

Alone in a cage, I pace back and forth
As people giggle and laugh
Fed twice a week with cold meat,
It smells like my friend, the giraffe.

Maybe he died – too weak to live.
Dreaming of savannah plains.
And the dreamy sunset that lit up the sky
And those wonderful African rains.

A boy threw a rock through the gates
It was aimed at where I lay,
I roared and growled and swiped my paw
Until the guards took me away.

Into a room, why had I had never been here?
It was dark, suspicious and cold
I looked around as I was pulled along
My body trembled with fear.

I growled at a guard when he tugged too hard,
He smelt of blood and dirty water.
I saw a shimmer, a gleaming knife.
This was a room of slaughter.

The men pulled me closer while I tugged away
Remember the days I used to play and run
In grass made of gold
Remember the days now my time has come
All because I was sold

Bang, this lion was gone,
I was weak and slow not active.
Don’t let this happen you will regret it.
Making us captive.

Lights

by Emma F. aged 10

Every Christmas there are lights
Some are bright
While others are dark as the night
You can see it if you look
But be careful cause some are hung by hooks
Christmas lights go all around
Even on mounds where nobody looks
I study how to do lights from books

Winter Morning

Winning Poem

I ask no lovelier thing
Than this winter morning:
See how the sparrow bounces on the thin branch,
Its feathers fluffing up against the chill;
See how the sun hides, peeping
Like the dying embers of a beach fire,
While jolly Winston-Churchill-clouds
Skip across the crisp, white sky.
Look! The deep red holly berries glint
Like Santa’s rosy cheeks
As my mind fills with Christmas
Hopes and dreams.
