First, gather a tablespoon of tinsel,
Next, get a cupful of decorations,
Then, add a swirl of of glowing fairy lights,
After that, pour in a litre of of colourful baubles,
Then, get a sparkling angel for the top of your tree,
Finally you need to mix in some Christmas spirit to your tree and it will be finished,
And it will be served
With a slice of happiness

Christmas Night

by Arran aged 7

Santa is reading a letter,
The children are behaving better.
Elves are making presents happily,
They are getting them ready for my family.
Santa sets off in his giant red sleigh,
It’s a freezing cold day!
Croydon is covered in snow,
Santa says, “Ho ho ho!”

Christmas Time

by Lexy aged 11

Christmas, Christmas.
The most wonderful time of year.
I just can’t possibly believe it’s here!
Clean you fireplaces have them at the ready,
so Santa can slide down nice and steady.
Carol singers everywhere,
singing the Christmas cheer
even Santa’s reindeer!
Merry Christmas
I hope you all get everything
you asked for on your wish list.

Destiny’s Child

I skim the threshold
between two realms, a liminal limbo
between the crown of Jesus
and his toes, nestled in prayer.

My fingers once grazed his temples,
the ringed scar of bigotry
upon His skin.
Now they jingle with garish orbs
from a thousand Xmas aisles.

My star-spangled crown;
a reflection in their eyes
between footfalls of sand.
Intangible trust,
in a smokescreen sea.

Now, I am ordained
by a toddler’s frisky fingers,
crowned with the lopsided love,
of yet-to-be-broken belief.

And when the premonitions
of new year, befall my fate,
a stock cupboard is no less than a cage.

Crucified on departure,
resurrected upon arrival.

Winter Wonderland

RUNNER UP

I get out of bed and see the snow
Falling down so gently and light.
I put on my mittens, as warm as three kittens.
I play in the snow ’til it’s night!

A Letter to Aurora Borealis

by Neve aged 14

you stare down at our warm souls,
you light us a path of glowing wonder,
you help us achieve our life-long goals,
you are the sun through all the thunder.

you guide us through our difficult journeys,
you show us that our passed-on loved ones are safe,
you bring us light when the night sky is cold and cloudy,
you protect us when we feel unsafe.

Winter is Beautiful

Winter is Beautiful,
Can’t you see?
Birds flying south,
Snow is falling around our street!
I think you’ll agree.
Look at the birch tree such little birds,
now they’ll fly south for winter please.

It’s Cold as Ice

WINNER

It’s cold as ice
A cup of hot chocolate would be nice
The clouds win
The sun loses
In sky height
I can feel the breeze
I can see the freeze
The trees are dying
The people are sighing
I am playing outside
I can see my friends on the other side
The sun shines
The clouds fight
I play with a sled
I sleep in my cozy bed
I like sitting near the heater
I want to go to the movie theatre
There is lots of snow
With things that I don’t know
We have snowball fights
With long cold nights
The days are short
The cold snow hurts
I go hiking
I also go biking

Christmas Day

0
by Fatima Asad aged 7

On Christmas day you have fun and play
And have lots of food and everyone is in a good mood
Under the tree there are gifts that are free
Children play with lots of glee and are happy as they can be
They run and have a lot of fun!

Winter Season

by Syeda Amna Adeel aged 9

Let’s welcome the winter season
Behind its celebration are many reasons
When the cold air breezes in
It makes me freeze in
Having a hot chocolate drink is a pleasure
I fill my cupboard with chocolate as a treasure
Making a snowman is what I love
To keep my hands warm I wear gloves
I want to practice and become a sprinter
I have a whale of a time in winter
