Where, Oh Where is the Light?

0
by Aarushi Dahiya aged 9

I have a shivery feeling in my spine,
Something just isn’t fine.
Everything doesn’t seem right.
Oh, goodness, where is the light?

Wherever is that flashlight,
My brother waved in my face,
Taunting me to no end,
Be it day or night?

Where are Grandma’s candles,
And their wavering, flickering glow,
All of a sudden they’ve disappeared,
Perhaps they were more than ol’ gram could handle?

Where, oh where, is the steady glare,
Of Dad’s study lamp,
As he scribbles frantically,
Beneath it’s undying flare?

Oh where, oh where has the light got to?
I knew it was mischievous,
But how I miss it now,
Oh, please, light, come back, do!

I’ll do anything,
Give up pizza,
Stop watching TV
Or even sing…

For you to come back, light,
Why, aren’t you stubborn!
Whatever is wrong, brightness,
Have we had a fight?

I’ve tried everything,
From candles to computers,
Fires to floodlights…

Or, perhaps, I could… open my eyes?

There goes Grandma, candle in hand,
Dad groaning for her to join a band,
Brother’s got hold of the flashlight again,
But most of all…
Sparkling sunlight flows through the nooks,
Crannies and cracks, onto my books,
Where, oh where is the light?
Beautiful light, shining bright.
THE ANSWER…..
Everywhere!!!!!

Memories Of A Lighter Time

2
by Sanya Chawla aged 16

Sunlight slowly seeps
into these brittle bones of mine,
which in the midst of winter creak
like an old toy
whose key has remained unwound
for decades of years.

It gives my heart life, this light,
its soft, caressing warmth a cloak
that reminds me of a now hazy past,
filled with dirt-speckled dungarees
and the chaos and joy that co-exist
in a full home.

Golden rays run across the porch,
across my rocking chair,
across the bark of the oak tree
which still has carved into it
all of our names.

My eyes follow this trail
that winds its way across my backyard,
leading my thoughts
into a now almost forgotten past,
and I remember.

I remember steaming cups of cocoa,
catching snowflakes on my tongue,
dancing deliriously to the beat of laughter,
and making snow angels under the sun.
I remember my father making Ma a hot cuppa,
the pumpkin-frosting cake that was his favorite,
and the way she’d rest her head on his shoulder
when they waltzed under the mistletoe every year.

But just like the fog on our windows
that would appear every single dawn,
my memories have but more or less faded away now,
receding so deep into my mind
that only a few still stay to surface again.
And sitting here, all alone on my porch,
I sigh and close my eyes,
while the sunlight dances across my eyelids
like those fleeting memories of mine.

The Sun is Turning Into a Fish

0
by Matthew aged 9

The sun is going away
It is only 2pm!
I need to get the sun back up in the sky

It turned into a
fish and I threw it into the sky.
The end.

No, I want to go to the end of the poem
OK, I like the sun in the sky I said.
I like the cool sun in the sky.
The End
MORE!
That was the End

Poem Of Light

by Lucy Kay aged 7

I wake up early at night remembering yesterday’s fight.
I have a bad dream which gives me a fright so
I look out the window and see the moonlight.
It looks so bright like a huge star in sight or a big white
kite.
I go back to bed to sleep the night away,
dreaming what I might do tomorrow.

Whatever Light You Wish

1
by Emily Kay aged 7

Street light, candle light,
whatever light you wish!
Might you, won’t you,
switch on the lights?
There’s firework lights, glow-worm lights
whatever light you wish!
Might you, won’t you
switch on the lights?
Lights, lights everywhere!
Hundreds, millions, billions and even trillions
Just so many lights!

Let There Be Light!

by Elena Winter aged 11

The softness of the moonlight
lighting up the sky,
the stars are awaking
as the sun waves goodbye.
The evening sunset
across the rippling sea,
as the waves slowly fade away,
the idea shines out of me…

Sun and the Moon

by Ruby aged 9

At the dead of night,
There is a fight,
Between the sun and the moon!

The sun is strong and bright,
While the moon is plain and light,
When the sun rises everyone’s as happy as can be
When the sun sets everyone just needs the key!

So at night it’s a tug of war,
The sun and the moon are not on the floor.
Now you know what happens at night,
But the thing is, who won?

The sun or the moon?

The Light of Our Eyes

0
by Mannat Mehra aged 11

Parents are the light of our eyes
They guide us at every step.
They change our nappies,
With all our poop (ewww!)
And ration out toffees and chocolate too
Mummy can be a little strict,
Daddy can betray her rules,
But together they make the most wonderful parents
Their light
Is brilliant and bright

It is magical and just right
In that light we shine

And now I will end it,
With a little tribute

Thank you dear mummy and daddy
for being the light in our eyes!

Sweet Dreams

Sweet Dreams, my Honey
Sweet Dreams, my Love
Stars watch down on you from above…
The light is your guardian
My voice will not sway
Let your dreams guide you on your way

Sweet Dreams, my Sugar
Sweet Dreams, my Plum
Mummy is holding you in her tum…
Daddy will be back I promise someday
But for now the light is your guardian
My voice will not sway
Let your dreams guide you on your way…
I see the stars and think of you
Their light beams down
Old stars and new

Sweet Dreams, my Honey
Sweet Dreams, my Love
Daddy is the light from above

Slowly Fading

0
by Sophie Hill Shawe aged 12

I see your true colours flying out of you
like eagles soaring in the sky
As I sit in my room looking through the window

Thinking of our good times together
Trying to forget the bad
All the times we went out walking

I made you a daisy chain
you put it around your arm and said how much you loved it
You made me feel happy, alive and alight

Then the bad sneaked into my head like a ninja in black
The time when you said you would be there but never came back
The time I invited you to my birthday but you never showed up
All the lies you said to me…

I see your true colours now
Nothing left to see
The light has faded, now it’s just me
