Chri…

Christmas is the best.
Christmas is left.
Santa has elves.
Santa is by himself when he drives his sleigh.

…stmas is the best.

As Eve Passes

As Eve passes,
And night turns to day,
Dreams are left behind,
And children wake up to a special holiday.
What curiosity they bear,
Unknowing of what the festive gift wrap hides
Or what treasures their stockings hold.
They rush to the tree, pushing siblings aside,
Searching for the present
That is marked by their name.
Paper is ripped,
Bows torn apart in a competitive flame
As parents stand aside,
Hoping children aren’t ashamed.

A Christmas Haiku

Lights around the tree,
Ornaments are glittering.
Wrapped presents adorn
The colorful skirt,
Accenting the tree’s beauty.
A star shines above,
Amidst candy canes,
And long strands of red ribbon.
A plate of cookies
Rests on a table,
Paired with a glass of cold milk,
Just for Santa Claus.
Sleeping children wait,
Minds dreaming of what Santa
Might have brought for them.

Christmas Looks Like…

by Min Su Kim aged 14

Christmas looks like
Reindeer dancing in the sky,
Noses red from flying so high,
Led by a man with a flowing white beard.

Christmas looks like
Cookies sprinkled with glitter,
Sparkling like the snow of winter,
Frosting the ground in heaps of ice.

Christmas looks like
Family and friends gathered together,
Decked out in Christmas sweaters
Laughing until the clock strikes midnight

And Christmas is over.

Such fun
In the cold sun
Presents
food
family
Time is going to fast
Warm like smores melting in fire
Smiles
Keeping me happy
Best day ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Choosing to believe.

As I put out my sleeping bag on Christmas Eve,
I thought:
“This is the night that I choose to believe,
In flying reindeer with red noses,
In the North Pole where everything is frozen,
In elves with very pointy ears,
And a toy factory filled with Christmas cheers.
In a man going around the world
In one night! Its Absurd!”
But tonight I will camp on my couch,
To see if Santa Claus will crouch
Underneath my tree with presents galore!
And enjoy cookies before he goes through the door.
Oh wait, does he not enter through the chimney?
He must get up and down really quickly.
One thing I must do is not make a peep!
And try not…to…fall…asleep.

Reflection at Christmas

by William Chang

I trudged through the fathomless snow
The snowflakes pirouetted towards the sheet of pure snow
Cold bites at every vulnerable part of my body
Wind howling at every corner

Struggling in the abyssal snow
There! Ahead of me!
Blinding light of the towering spruce tree
The smell of mouthwatering food and scented candles
Through frosted windows of joyful homes came happiness in everyone’s hearts
Heavenly potatoes piled on ham with rich gravy
Sounds of sweet-sounding carols from churches

I drank in all of my surroundings
Beautiful and joyful

I arrived home
The warmth coursed through my veins
Fire crackled in the fireplace
Baubles shone like orbs of light
Delicious food was laid on the length of the table
Stockings lay in a row

The dinner ended
Jokes were shared and explosive laughter filled the air
I played a fugue by Bach while others received gifts
Gifts from crackers and of joy
The day had been eventful
A new perspective
A new reflection

Christmas Time

Christmas is a time
when you sit and watch the snowfall
as you drink hot chocolate
sing Christmas songs
and eat Christmas pudding

Christmas Present

My Christmas present is a dog.
He eats like a hog.
My dog is a pug.
I love to give him hugs.
When he does a trick I give him a treat.
Know I name Pete.
My dog is so sweet.
His fur curled.
Oh, he’s the best dog in the world.

Merry Xmas

Winning Poem

Christmas is here
Hooray, Hooray
Really the festive season has come
At last
The best way to end
Whatever year you’ve had
But don’t forget about

Christmas Shopping
Shops busier than you’ve ever seen
It starts from the first of December
Until… I don’t know

Oh, and don’t forget the mistletoe
Seriously
I don’t know any two people
Who can avoid it!

Don’t forget the other Christmas traditions
So, all that’s left for me to say is
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
