World War 1

Winning Poem

As I walked through a field of poppies,
That flood back the memories,
Of the war in the past,
That wasn’t the last.

We fly free because of you,
The blood of the poppies spill as our thanks do,
Your memories make us believe,
That we can’t give up if we want to achieve.
Your legacy lives with us.
As we watch the sun set,
I wish that we could’ve met.
I want to tell you how much we miss your courage.
God smiled on you as you fought,
You to me, I am naught,
You saved us all,
My tears fall.

As I walked through a pool of blood,
Of the ones that were loved,
Made me shed a tear,
For the ones who had no fear.

The dying soldier lifts his head,
Whispering a wish that glory lies ahead,
For his fellow friends that are still on their feet,
To victory you shall meet.
His tears drip and fall into his blood,
His face smeared with mud,
His last words of hope,
His last sight of the glowing sun,
Your fight is over and done,
You may not have achieved the best,
You may not want to rest,
But now your heart has done its job,
For soon no longer it will throb.
Your feet no longer let you stand,
Your eyes will close,
Leave you to sleep,
Leave you to go,
No longer you will see rain or snow,
But remember all that loved you back at home,
You have spread your wings and you have flown.

As I walked through the battlefield,
Where many were killed,
I stood thinking of our heroes,
The brave ones who fought our foes.

Kristallnact 1938

Innocent Jewish people
Houses burnt to the ground
Windows smashed into shards
The night of broken glass

Two days and nights
People got beaten
Over one thousand synagogues charred and lifeless
Seven thousand five hundred Jewish businesses ransacked

Over ninety one Jews dead
Thirty thousand Jewish men arrested
For being Jewish
Concentration camps became larger

In the night of broken glass

by Baylee aged 7

Today is poetry day
So be ready to read your poems
This is going to be good
But if we talk we cannot read our poems
So I am going to be quiet
YES.
My name is Emily
I am six years old
This is my book
Could I love my mom?
I love my mom
She is the best
She is sweet
She is a good cooker
She is funny
My mom draws well
She is 32 years old
The End
So, how did you like my book?>
Oh my, it was a good poem.

Christmas Poem

2
by Ellie aged 12

Pucker up and kiss someone
under the mistletoe
and bend down low Join me in a winter wonderland
Having fun waving hands
Santa comes
Sleigh bells ringing
Kids sing carols
Mummy shouting greetings
Daddy hugging friends
Silly grandma
Seeing friend
Writing list
Tummy aching with too much caking
and people baking
People waking
Santa’s reindeer breaking
Santa here of cheer
Girls and boys get their toys
When they wake up they open them with joy

It was the night before Christmas
And all through the sea
Jellyfish were stinging
Your entire family.

Christmas time is full of cheer.
With Santa’s reindeer.

Jesus was born that day.
Say shepherds of the night were there.

The Cane

The cane belongs to old father winter
The one that that began to splinter
The jolly cane, red and white
Just like the one for a barber’s light
The spinning tornado of two color
Just like the candy cane, sold for a dollar
Or a Euro in the way in the UK
Either way, touche
Christmas is celebrated most everywhere
The red and white lair
Of Santa Claus
Or Jolly Saint. Nicholas, both a cause
for a jolly smile
made by this Christmas writing style

I Am You

by Hyeong Geon Kim aged 15

I ate some sugar
I just had a candy cane
I thought it was lame
I believe the tree
I like the tree of Presents
I like big presents
I don’t like to think
I don’t like that some don’t have
I think about you
You are me and I
You are me myself and I
You need my presents
