Crazy Christmas

by Rose aged 8

Christmas trees are bright,
they light up the night,
even though some people haven’t got good sight.
Santa Santa likes mince pies,
All the adults are pretending to be Santa
at this time of year,
well they try to in a way,
so try a mince pie,
and bye bye for now,
and just remember the real Santa is watching!

The Christmas Nightmare

by Venus Chaudhry aged 12

On the busiest night
Of Christmas Day
There are still things that will leave dismay.

As quiet children sleep
Softly and calm
A monster awakes to cause alarm.

It’s sharp yellow teeth
With scrapping fingernails
Creeps from the shadows, its skin quite pale.

It closes around the corner of the bed
Breathing down the child’s head.

It’s gnashers grind, clamp and creek
Sniffing out all it seeks.

The skeleton-like figure raises a claw hand
The skin of its finger feeling like sand.

It brushes against the poor victim’s cheek
Checking to see if generosity is weak.

This child has been greedy
Selfish and all
Not giving presents even to the needy.

The Christmas Nightmare grabs the child’s shoulder
Pulls it out of bed
Then the warm blankets are left colder.

Sometime you hear The Christmas Nightmare
It’s shoulders pop from its sockets
As another greedy child is stashed in its pockets.

It’ll leave you crying all night
Because The Christmas Nightmare always causes a fright.

Catastrophe On Christmas

Christmas Eve is a happy time
Kids running and jumping around
Waiting for presents on Christmas day
Put out a mince pie for Santa

Some reindeer food for Rudolph
Sadly though, not the other reindeers
Well you know, it doesn’t really matter
All that ‘reindeer food’ is….

I don’t mean to be a scrooge
Or anything like that
But reindeer food is just glitter and oats
Which makes the reindeer fat

One Christmas Eve they landed on a street
A street that held a competition
To see who could buy the most lights
They landed on the roof of the winner

Layered with lights that night
A runway was cleared the week before
For Santa and his sleigh
So they could deliver the presents

Ready for Christmas Day
Santa said to Rudolph
“Please don’t run away.”
He jumped down into the chimney

Far, far away
Something quite odd happens
When the word ‘don’t’ is said
You really want to do that thing

It messes with your head
Or in Rudolph’s case
It messes with his antlers
Rudolph charged like lightning

Majestically, he flew off the roof
At least, that was the image in his head
This is what really happened:
He ran to the edge of runway

Ready to take off for flight
Reaching the stars on that festive night
But the stars remained a long way away
And Rudolph got a fright

His antlers had gotten tangled
In all the flashing lights
The other reindeers began to panic
Santa would be EXTREMELY mad

They tried cutting the lights
Started a fire
Bashing his antlers on houses
Crumbled a lot of walls

Blixen even tried to untie them
Obviously, that idea was crazy
Since reindeers don’t have thumbs
If you think about it, thumbs are the only reason that humans rule the world

Santa was heard thudding back up the chimney
And the reindeers all hung their heads in shame
When Santa asked who’s fault it was
Comet gave Rudolph the blame

Santa gave Rudolph a good telling off
Then called Mrs Claus on his phone
She has very nimble fingers you know
Mrs Claus arrived in a jiffy

And untied the gigantic knot
They all sped away in Santa’s sleigh
Knowing they would be pursued
The whole street was wrecked, thanks to them

Back in the North Pole feeling comfy
They heard a knock on the door
Police were stood outside
This is what they said:

“We are here for you and the reindeer
For the damage you caused on Christmas night.”
So Santa squished in the police car
With Rudolph and Blixen and more

They were taken away
For six months and a day
For the crime they accidentally committed
Six boring months stuck in a cell

With eight reindeers and a woman called Tess
She was in for stealing a beautiful dress
So Santa and Rudolph are no longer friends
And none of it would have happened

If Rudolph had just behaved
Or if Santa had not said ‘don’t’
So if you don’t want to end up in prison
Please just follow this rule

If you’re in dismay
Then don’t disobey
Santa and his golden rules
And if you do then Tess might come
In the black of night and steal you’re beautiful dress:):):)

On the way to the North Pole I saw Santa

On the way to the North Pole I saw Santa and his elves

On the way to the North Pole I saw Santa and his elves and Rudolf the red nosed reindeer

On the way to the North Pole I saw Santa and his elves and Rudolf the red nosed reindeer and lots of presents

On the way to the North Pole I saw Santa and his elves and Rudolf the red nosed reindeer and lots of presents and the naughty and nice list

Bunnies

by Sophie-Jaya Boots aged 8

Little ears as silky as angel’s hair
Little paws that come out of the lair
Little teeth that nibble food
Little legs in a joyful mood
A little nose that senses well
Little whiskers as delicate as a seashell
Little eyes that go blink, blink, blink
A little body that could be dressed in pink
A little tail that swings happily
A little heart that beats naturally
Little bunnies so cuddly
Little bunnies so lovely.

Scooby’s Paw

Winning Poem

Uncle Ben,
Brought you home with him
under his arms.
Your tongue lolling out,
and your eyes wide open
discovering a new place.
When he let you out of his arms,
you came to me,
running;
as if you had known me for years.

We grew up,
played,
cried,
laughed, together:
paw in hand.

When even my shadow left me,
when my soul poisoned my thoughts,
when I held a grudge against smiling,
when happiness was just a word for me;
then you gently
placed your furry paw on my hand,
and sighed sadly
as if you felt that pain.

Now that you’ve left me, alone:
I feel lonely in this cruel world
And this sphere of greedy people.

Both,
My room and my thoughts
redolent with your
smell.

Now-
I wish you could come back, so that
I had someone to share all my secrets with
Without the fear of being judged;
So that, I had someone who would
always be there for me.

I miss tottering with you,
Tumbling with you
and doing the fox poo.
I miss gripping you,
hugging you,
cuddling with you.

Now that I wouldn’t have
anyone
to coax me,
I will relentlessly miss
you.

Pawprint Shaped Dream

Winning Poem

Gentle tears,
Her lustrous eyelashes
Green mirrors
The seamstress’s cat
Dreams spread out on looms,
Picking at them
Strand by strand
Seamstress’s cat
Sitting by an empty bowl
Gently sipping moonlight
Seamstress’s cat
Trampling on the moon
The shadows of needles
Gently stitching his dreams
Seamstress’s cat
The shadows of tapestry
Gently fluttering
The night flaps away
Seamstress’s cat
Every bit of him
For the tapestry
Amidst the thickness of fabric,
Poor seamstress,
Restless fingers, twitching
To gaze at the tapestry
Seamstress’s cat
The start… was a mere strand
The end… was a silky paw print
An imprint on the aisle
of her heart
Seamstress’s cat
Never a mew?
No milk?
No muddy paw prints?
The sprinting illusions
of a Cheshire cat
Painstakingly woven into
a soft, silky paw print
The threads of utmost yearning

The King of The Jungle

by Sam Rozenberg aged 13

Winning Poem

He stands on top of the hill
With his head held high.
He makes sure no one will defeat him,
Or his jungle.
He comes out with a big loud roar,
While the wind is blowing his mane.
He runs fifty miles per hour,
To catch his yummy prey.
His fierce attitude tells him he can do anything.
That’s is why he isn’t a chicken.

Later when he is tired,
He comes home to his family,
His cubs and wife.
He makes sure they aren’t hurt,
And sends them off to bed.
He kisses his wife goodnight,
Then sends her to bed.
The Moon is out and he gives one roar,
“Stay away from my family! Goodnight.”

Morning Catch

by Benjamin Huang aged 9

Winning Poem

when you creep by, the birds always
fly away at the sight of you, leaving
silence and solitude.

when you explode through the acrid air, hungering, you
pounce for the baby stag,
dust gathers beneath
your heavy paws and in your dry lungs

and when an animal’s bright eyes dim like
dying stars, you feel no emotion until you realize
that you are alone once again.

A Jaguar

by Indigo Moss aged 7

Winning Poem

With its mighty roar, tons of stripes and spots galore,
Summoning all the beasts, with its beauty and clashing teeth.
Sister of lions and brother of the tiger,
Everyone stares at this stalking hider.
Up high, in the trees, stealing honey from the bees,
Nursing their cubs till fair and plump,
And after six months, teaching them how to hunt.
And when they are two, here is what they will do,
They will leave their mother all alone, until she makes another clone.
I, myself, love the jaguar, I treat it like golden armour.
You see I have a pet, a male.
Guess his name?
Yes, that’s right, it’s…
JAGUAR!
