Solitude

by Ilham Quddus aged 10

Left solitude, exposed to the elements,
I shudder from head to toe.
It’s hard to survive without a roof.
In the 21st century, esteem is so low!
Waves crash against the shore.
Rain drums against my unseen door.
Lightning illuminates the ground.
In the future, I had quoth ‘Nevermore’
To something that tortures me to my core.
To something to abhor!

Music

Have you heard about music?
It’s just like a song.
Have you heard about music?
Like a clock goes ‘ding-dong’.

There’s the cello, double bass and the flute.
Someone made music mute.
It was the musician, John Cage.
4’33’ was his sage.

[ Earning him a spot on the stage. ]

Earth

The world is divided into nations
And some even convey oblations.
Some eat noodles.
Some breed poodles.
The world has many derivations.

There’s English, Swahili and Spanish,
Latin – they had to banish.
We are diverse and we are unique
And why shouldn’t we have our own technique?

I dream of an Earth where man shan’t scorn.
Let peace its paths adorn.
We may have our differences
But we’ll still have our acquiescences.

Sky!

The sky is blue
and birds fly through
whilst we eat bamboo
The birds are trying to stay away from cats too
and in nonsense land they all say –
Moo!

The Council’s Tree

by Rebecca aged 9

The Council sent some people
with a chomp and spit machine
Two people with chainsaws
cutting down a tree.
I noticed a guy with a rake
and he had to stay awake
because he had some people as company.
The chomp and spit machine
chomped and spat
the branches of the tree
into tiny splinters
to make the thing
I’m writing on
and that thing is
paper.

My family play Marvel Lego
They fall from the heli-carrier
on to earth below
The people in the meadow say hello
and drink hot cocoa.

Shush

by Hanshika aged 11

He walks up the stairs,
With mighty brown hair,
A grin on his face,
An untied lace.

A chest full of pride,
Legs that slowly stride,
Arms crossed,
Head relaxed,
Fingers in a fist.

He opens his mouth to say,
Hooray!!!!!!!!
I got in to the new high school!

Did I scare you???

Night Time

The stars shine bright in the moon light ,
The nocturnal animals roam the night ,
Us humans sleep, trying not to let the bedbugs bite.
