Dogs are playful, peaceful
They are eager to get a hug from you.
If dogs weren’t a thing I would be crying like crazy.
A fact about dogs is they are very playful

One Team, One Dream

0
by Alice Allen aged 11

On fields of dirt, beneath blue skies,
We gave it all — no compromise.
With bats and gloves and hearts so wide,
We stood as one, side by side.

From early drills to final play,
We chased our goals day by day.
Sweat and laughter, highs and lows,
That’s the game — and how it goes.

To my teammates fierce and true,
I wouldn’t trade one swing for you.
Each hit, each catch, each rally cry,
Together, we reached for the sky.

And to our coaches — thanks a ton,
For every lesson, every run.
You pushed us hard, believed we could,
And taught us more than just “be good.”

So here’s to memories made this year,
To every cheer we got to hear.
We played with pride, we played with grace,
And left our mark upon this place.

One team, one dream — that’s what we’ll be,
A softball family, endlessly.

Seasons

0
by Addie Elliott aged 8

Floating, rippling, in the waves,
Yet staying in one place
Watching seasons pass by through the years.
Winter to spring
Spring to summer
Summer to fall,
All alone,
Waiting for the cycle to start again.
You shout, nobody hears.
You watch as waterlilies pass by,
And your heart begins to sink
As you realize the water is now still, unmoving.
You hear a voice on the wind, saying
“You are never alone.”
These words ring in your head again and again
And you know it’s true,
Day after day you think about who had said
Such hope filling words.
One day, you find them sitting on a rock
Singing the most beautiful tune you’ve ever heard.
It lights up a part of you that you thought was gone.
For the first time in forever you feel… hope.

In the Atmosphere of Stars

by Kristina Heaney aged 9

In the atmosphere of stars I created
The bright bleaching stars and the big bulging balloon.
In the atmosphere of stars I created
The purple and pink stars shimmering
And the big brown bear burrowing deep down.
In the atmosphere of stars, I created
The strawberry snake slithering on side paths
And the green goblin gobbling up grass like a greedy goat.
In the atmosphere of stars, I created
The colour covered cloud conducting a crowd
And the pink poppy persuading me to take a picture for her passport.
In the atmosphere of stars, I created
The red rainbow rat who was called Rodger and who drove a Rolls Royce
And the green gorilla driving a green grape.
In the atmosphere of stars I, created
The big back baboon bowing to his king
And the orangutan swinging from branch to branch.

School

by Addie aged 9

Ever day we go to school, we know lots of people there.
We’ll learn the things we have to learn, and play the games we want to play.
Your head’s full of brains down to your feet
You shouldn’t go down any not-so-good street
We go to school to have food in our tummies.
You and me are very lucky.

At the Roadside of Secrets

3
by Ishan Bagade aged 9

At the roadside of secrets I uncovered
a strange staircase that touched the clouds,
a chest of treasure like pirates markings,
and a green grasshopper leaping like a frog.

At the roadside of secrets I uncovered
a clear puddle with a trickle like a tear,
a racoon raising its sharp claws like a knight lifting a sword,
and a bunch of potholes like the surface of the moon.

At the roadside of secrets I uncovered
an old rusty coffee shop abandoned like an active volcano,
a crowd of people sprinting like Usain Bolt in his prime,
and a random chair for someone to sit on.

At the roadside of secrets I uncovered
a great field of grass swaying in the breeze,
a broken down car smoking like a wildfire,
and an amazing apple tree holding tens of apples.

At the roadside of secrets I felt
The mild breeze brushing my plump face,
The noises in my head from the Cities in the past,
and the whispers in my head telling me to go home.

At the roadside of secrets I took
a smooth, shimmering stone shining as bright as a diamond,
A funny rock shaped like a hollow cup with no handle,
and a piece of a tyre from a burnt, broken truck.

There Was Another Choice

by Marshall Gapper aged 15

My dad adopted you in autumn’s gold,
On October 26, 2012
I was two years old, as my story unfolds,
That’s the day I first knew you.
I met you in the morning light,
your fur, I hold tight,
My ride or die, through joy and fright,
You were my everything, my soul,
We were alike—together whole.
Seasons turned, and puppies came,
You trusted me to guard their names.
Odd Sock, now Elliott, carries your spark,
A lookalike born on October’s arc.
Among eleven tiny paws I chose
The one who matched you, heart and nose.
White paws and colors on your back legs,
A fluffy chest, a lion’s pride it begs.
As years went by, your vision waned,
Your steps grew slow, your strength restrained.
I feared it was cancer, pain in your leg,
With every limp, my heart would beg.
Each step you took was laced with pain,
I watched you stumble, fall again.
You tried to rise from garden green,
Struggling softly, barely seen.
I’d lift you gently in my arms,
Cradling you safe from all harm.
I set you down inside or out,
On the garden grass or the sofa’s couch.
Weeks later, news fell like the sky
My parents said we’d soon say goodbye.
I cried, unable to let you go,
Not ready yet to face the woe.
I said my last farewell that day,
Took her picture to school, heart in dismay.
After class, my parents told me the truth
She was gone, lost in her youth.
Her hip muscles faded, her strength grew thin,
If only wheels could have helped her win.
The vet said no, it wouldn’t be right,
So we let her go, gently that night.
She lay with Mum, so sleepy and warm,
A final injection, free from harm.
I cried for hours alone in my gloom,
Knowing we’d lost her far too soon.

You Ate a Cat

0
by Abdulrahman aged 7

I was walking to school until a cat appeared.
It meowed, saying I ate Its sister in front of him.
I continued walking until I got in the car.
I drove, then I ate a burger.
The cat missed that I ate its Mum.
I Shouted so loudly it pinned its ears.
I ate a sandwich
It hissed that I ate its Brother.
