We Wear a Mask

0
by Joe aged ?

We wear the mask that grins and lies,
It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes,—
This debt we pay to human guile;
With torn and bleeding hearts we smile,
And mouth with myriad subtleties.

Why should the world be over-wise,
In counting all our tears and sighs?
Nay, let them only see us, while
We wear the mask.

We smile, but, O great Christ, our cries
To thee from tortured souls arise.
We sing, but oh the clay is vile
Beneath our feet, and long the mile;
But let the world dream otherwise,
We wear the mask!

Ten Tiny Mice

0
by Isabelle Laszlo aged 8

Ten tiny mice in a singing line
One lost her voice and then there were nine.

Nine tiny mice learning to ice skate
One fell over then there was eight .

Eight tiny mice dressed up for heaven
One thought it could fly now there were seven.

Seven tiny mice talking to chicks
One sat on a egg and then there was six.

Six tiny mice learning to drive
One crashed his car then there was five.

Five tiny mice looking for the shore
one went for a swim then there were four.

Four tiny mice climbing a tree
One built a house and then there was three.

Three tiny mice eating bamboo
One got sick and then there were two.

Two tiny mice having lots of fun
One got bored then there was one.

The Outsider

1
by Eric aged 10

While the crowds play,
The outsider stays,
Their only friend – Loneliness
And their most faithful companion- Darkness.

The outsider knows he gets pushed and put off,
Shunted and shushed
Yet he knows he, he will conquer the Earth,
He will rule the sea.

The outsider knows he is forever alone,
Yet he calls this…
Home.

A Snowy Day

1
by Noah Coffey aged 8

I feel a jolt of excitement, ooh its a snowy day today!
I see mystery footprints in the snow,
I can’t wait to go outside and play!
Come on! Hurry Up! Hurry Up! Lets go!

A black cat jumps up on the windowsill like a frog,
It pounces at the passing snowflakes as they fall.
Patting, prodding, playing, but the snowflakes fall on the back of a small sausage dog,
His paws crunch in the crispy snow as he plays with his ball.

Playing in the snow is fun,
We went sledging and had a snowball fight.
Laughing, chasing, falling on my bum!
After a while I was chilly, shivery and icy so my Mum hugged me tight.

I Went to the Park

1
by Akshara aged 7

I went to the park
It wasn’t dark
It was fun
I loved to run
I saw a puppy
Her name was Poppy
Later I went home,
And I saw my favourite gnome
I loved the park
But now it’s dark
It’s time for bed
I’m ready for the day ahead

Hope

0
by Xindi Huang aged 11

I once thought that hope
Was in fact an error
Perhaps impossible to interpret
Perhaps possible to disguise
But it is like a glass marble
Able to tell the future
Decipherable but unclear
Mystifying yet comprehensible
It is delicate-
And not a fallacy

Snowflakes

0
by Rosie Hill aged 11

I woke up one morning
and looked out into the street
and all I could see was snowflakes
falling fast around everybody’s feet.
I ran back in and quickly dressed,
I didn’t have time to eat,
all I wanted to do
was get out into the street.
My little dog came with me,
she jumps and runs around
but can’t quite make out why
she can’t see the ground.
Her coat gets ruffled and all wet,
she looks a proper sight
but when we go in I’ll dry her off
and then she’ll be alright.
We played all day in the snow
until the the night time came,
I hope when I wake up tomorrow
the snow will be here again.
