As I Slumber

As I slumber, I hear the crickets outside,
See the AC’s light and feel the warmth of my blanket.

I smell my candle’s fragrance,
I feel like I can do anything.

I feel as though I am in a movie,
I gain the vision of my imagination.

The rain comes and goes
All that remains is the petrichor

Life moves on, as I slumber
As I feel spirited

My House

Tables snoring
Clothes giggling
Dishes fighting
Walls arguing
Beds dancing
Bags singing
Floors crying
Doors being cheeky
Fridge talking
When I came back
I said
NOT AGAIN!

Shift

The plates will still shift
and the clouds will still spew.
The sun will slowly rise
and the moon will follow too.

I Am Proud

I’m proud of who I’m becoming
but get along for the ride
if you want to see me refine it all.
I’m not trying to be who you are,
I want to be something I never thought I could be…

The Magical Moon

by Laaibah aged 11

How beautiful is the moon
Hiding herself at noon.
Always guiding others with her light
Afraid they might lose sight.
I told you once and I’ll tell you again
This a poem about a magical moon.

Life is Like a Play

Life is like a play
Sometimes it turns grey
So this is what I say
I can quit this play
But still have joy to spray
So I start to pray,
Let happiness forever stay
My dreams will all come true one day

Diwali

Diwali’s here,
so no time to be mere.
Light up the Diya’s,
Lord Ram is here.

Mother’s in the kitchen
cooking a feast of pure delight.
Sweets on the table,
What a colourful sight!
Flavours of many,
There’s none I don’t like.

Time for the feast,
there’s bhujia and rotis.
There’s dal and samber.
There’s rice and rasam.
There’s dosas and chutney,
rusogullas and boondi!
And much more.
A feast made of pure love!

Diwali’s here,
So no time to be mere.

Night

When you feel down in the night,
Please look out the window at the sight.
The city is beautiful and bright.
Someday you can fly like a kite,
So don’t be afraid to take a flight.
Whatever you choose is always right.

Cat and Mouse

by Noah aged 8

Mouse in my house
Eager to run
Desparate to hide

Lurking in the murky
A fearsome black panther
Ready to surprise
Steady to pounce

With a smile so white
And a smile so wide
Little did mouse know
There’s nowhere to go
