Ode to Cricket
When the Umpire lifts his arms,
to signal a six,
As a bowler on the opposite team,
it really gets on my wick.
When I have the ball in hand,
it’s weighed down by the leather,
But when it’s whizzing through the air,
it looks as light as a feather.
As the innings swap, I pad up,
with a nervous look on my face,
But when I’m out on the pitch,
I hit the ball with such grace.
But it all stops there,
when I hear the words – How’s that?
The ball has hit the stumps,
and that is the end of my bat.
We win again and again,
but when we lose, I pout,
But I’ll never stop loving cricket,
because that is what this poem is all about!
The Naughty Dog
There was once a naughty dog,
Who really needed a hard flog.
He didn’t let people talk in the streets,
Or even cheerfully walk.
Even when on his lead,
He would go and cause big mischief.
He used to go and scare people out of their wits,
They would have to watch for the sharp teeth of his!
People would run around,
Around and around on the ground,
Whenever he approached,
And when he did that they would scream and shout, “Call Mrs Roach!
Mrs Roach was the animal controller,
And the dog really really loathed her.
Now we’ll say goodbye to that dog,
And hope he won’t need another flog!
‘Tis the Month of Halloween
‘Tis the month of halloween
Witches ready to be seen.
The evil spirits and witches are now here,
You can run, but you cannot hide my dear.
Monsters stalking through the night,
Halloween is the night of fright.
The spooky goblins calling out your name,
And the Jack O’ Lantern waiting in the rain.
Tonight is the night,
Tonight is the night for lots of tricking and treating.
Tonight is the night to create havoc and freaking.
Tonight is the night where all shall fear,
Tonight is the night where the ghosts & ghouls come near.
In ancient times many feared this night,
For all the spirits had brought fright.
Why they were scared of this night, you’ll see.
On this All Hallows’ Eve.
