My Bestfriend

by Lunasha Limb aged 11

I steal her food,
She helps me when I’m in a bad mood,
She’s really pretty,
Yet, she’s really witty,
She stands up for me,
And she never lets me be,
We talk tooo much,
At school, books we don’t touch,
And this person is known as
My best friend!

I was awoken

I guess I was kinda glad
that the doctor was around

Praise the soldiers,
On the 11th of the 11th,
People crying,
People dying,
Years of soldiers dying.

A Sign Of Summer

0
by Meera Vishnu aged 8

When sunrise begins the day
All of the animals
Come out to play

Mangoes are ripe
Flowers are blooming
All of the foxes are grooming

When the day finally
Comes to an end
All of the night animals
Come out again

Corn on the cob on a great sunny day
Jump in the lake
Hurray hurray
Have an ice cream or some peach cobbler
And savor the day that’s way longer!

All About My Plant

0
by Eliana Kuteyi aged 7

This is my plant,
I named her Peace Lily,
But any time I leave,
She’s a bit silly,
And squeezes other plants!

She’d ride on a slippery ball,
And crash into the wall,
Fall down on the floor,
And walk into the door,
Full of wriggly worms!

This is my plant,
She swam into the lake,
And saw a ginormous snake,
Which wanted her to bake—
Oh, what a funny sight!

Beyond The Castle Of Mourning

1
by Olivia Cook aged 9

Beyond the castle of mourning
The castle is a sleeping giant,
Its towers are knuckles,
its windows are closed eyes
and its heavy portcullis are its closed lips.

Beyond the castle of mourning
The flag on the turret flies like a bird
with a broken wing.
I captured the dancing rose of the King.
I ran like a magnificent leopard.

Beyond the castle of mourning
I captured a snake-handled sword,
as it self-importantly sliced,
struck and slashed the air.

Beyond the castle of mourning
The old walls whisper tales of battles won and lost.
I captured lightning in a bottle,
as it shook and quivered,
I thought of old times long ago.

Beyond the castle of mourning
The brave castle bared its teeth to the storm.
I captured a dragon’s heart,
braving the most fearsome of adventures to receive it.

Beyond the castle of mourning
The spiral staircase swallowed all who entered,
twisting them until they were lost in time.
I realized that not all is lost.

Beyond the castle of mourning
The castle sulked in the rain,
a grey face frowning at the world.
Maybe this is an illusion, but I hear voices overhead.

Beyond the castle of mourning
The stranger’s boom cracked the very foundation of the earth.
Could this man be the king,
or a trespasser, like me?
