The Bubble Wrap

The Bubble Wrap and other poems by Dean Parkin (Small Donkey Books)

‘The best thing about a sneeze is  . . . how people you’ve never met smile and bless you’. A sneeze is also a packet of crisps bursting over the sofa. As this one illustrates, the poems in this book summon up some lovely images. Several also show how just a few words can explain some big ideas. I learned more than a couple of things, including that a traditional way to find out what your friends think is to tell them an unusual fact and ask them to rate it Terrific, Horrific or Squit – squit is the Old Norfolk word for rubbish. One thing I didn’t learn was what really is a spagnut. Read the poem and see what you think! Nice illustrations by the author.
