100 Brilliant Poems for Children

Chosen by Paul Cookson (Macmillan Children’s Books)

Lots of old favourites in this collection by modern stalwarts like Roger McGough, Pie Corbett, Roger Stevens, John Foster and James Carter but also by those who went some while before, such as Tennyson, Robert Frost, Auden and Shakespeare. Too many good and acclaimed poets to mention, really. It’s a great collection of poems funny, serious, happy and sad. Most of them actually are brilliant! And I like the few pages at the back where some of the featured poets examine how some of the poems work. A nice book.  TUC
