by Jane Edwards aged 16

words: snap them in your bag
swirl them round your head
rinse and spit them out
hold them off and go to bed
‘words’ is just the term
for the things that live inside
they want to escape their nonsensical forms
but are dangerous once alive.
So pick and choose the worthy
discard and forget the glib
spring clean all the dirt
and now they may leave your lip
