The Den

by Jack Day aged 11

Deep down in the woods I see a den…
I see the summer
the sun peeking through the canopy of the woods
brightening up the dark den.

Deep down in the woods I see a den
I see the autumn
I see the leaves gracefully falling to the ground
covering the den with a carpet of leaves.

Deep down in the woods I see a den
I see the winter
I see the crystal snowflakes gliding from the sky
now the den is cold.

Deep in the woods I see a den
I see the spring
I see the animals coming out of hibernation
the den is now their home.

That’s what I saw.
